Day 5

You have a listening God

“Never stop praying.” -1 Thessalonians 5:17

Prayer is your lifeline to God, and it’s nothing more than just talking with God. God wants you to have an on-going conversation with Him all throughout your day. Talking with God isn’t just reserved for inside the church or with a group of people. You can pray anywhere at anytime! You can pray out loud, or quietly in your heart. God LOVES when you pray because every time you do, you are communicating to Him that you believe and trust that He hears you. That is called faith (Hebrews 11:1).

Your prayers don’t have to sound impressive or full of spiritual language  (in fact, those kind of prayers have been known to miss the point entirely. See Matthew 6:7-8). God isn’t interested in fancy prayers, He’s interested in honest ones. God already knows what you need, even before you ask. What He longs for is a heart that is completely open to Him. The Bible says that the eyes of the Lord search throughout the whole Earth, looking to find someone who is fully committed and available to Him (2 Chronicles 16:9).

God is seeking hearts that are dedicated to Him. David is known in the Bible as ‘a man after God own heart’ (1Samuel 13:14). David was a man who did not hide from God. His prayers were raw and wild and honest - and God loved that. David made plenty of mistakes, but after he made them he repented and asked God to forgive him. He never tried to be something he was not, he was simply content to be himself. God chose David (above everyone else) to be the king of Israel because of David’s heart that was dedicated to God. David was not trying to be a king, he was just serving God faithfully where he was. David began his life as a young overlooked shepherd boy in an obscure field, but when he chose to live life God’s way, God lead him to rule in a palace. God chooses forgotten people in forgotten places! He lifts up people who live humbly before Him and He puts them in places of significance and honour. Don’t pretend to be someone you are not! The Bible says that God opposes the proud but gives favour to the humble! when you pray, your prayers are most beautiful to God when they are humble, grateful, sincere and honest.

Prayer - God, look into my heart and see if there is anything inside that is offensive to you. I never want to hide my heart from you, I want to be honest and open. Please search the Earth and find me, I give my heart and my life to you wholly! Give me a heart like David, a heart that is wholly devoted and committed to you.
